Cliff Dive Bar at Sheraton Maui

Ocean views with outdoor seating on Ka’anapali Beach and an incredible Black Rock view. Make a reservation to enjoy the cliff diving ceremony on Black Rock and the lighting of the torches. The ceremony starts just before sunset, between 5:30-6:30 pm.

Monkeypod at Whalers Village

The Best Mai Tai on the Island, with an amazing view of the ocean and Ka’anapali Beach. We recommend the Taro ravioli, Garlic Truffle Oil Fries, Hamakua Wild Mushroom and Truffle Oil Pizza. Save room for their delicious pies! Our favorite is the Strawberry Cream and Banana Cream. Monkeypod is one of the best Kaanapali Restaurants on Maui.

Leilani’s On The Beach

Gorgeous ocean views on Ka’anapali Beach. Leilani’s is part of the TS Restaurant group, which owns other Hawaiian mainstay restaurants such as Duke’s, Kimo’s, and Hula Grill. Save room for their famous Hula Pie! Other menu favorites are the Parmesan-crusted Mahi Mahi, Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes, and Sesame-crusted Ahi Steak.

They are located in Whaler’s Village. Their beach bar is open from 10:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Daily, and dinner is served from 4:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Daily. You can make a reservation online or call (808) 661-4495.

Hula Grill

The sister restaurant of Leilani’s is located at Whaler’s Village. Its beautiful location with Ka’anapali Beach views is one of the reasons it is so popular. Try their Crab-Topped Macadamia-Crusted Mahi Mahi, Poke Tacos, or Fish Tacos. Leave room for the famous Hula Pie! They have an exclusive Maui Brewing Company beer, Barefoot Brew. Try their Sunday Brunch from 10:00 am—2:00 pm.

It is located at the Marriott Ocean Club Villas in Ka’anapali. They serve the best Italian cuisine on Maui with fresh Hawaiian seafood and produce. Longhi’s has been a family-owned business in Hawaii for over 45 years. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Try their crab cakes and their in-house made hot macadamia nut pie.

Maui Brewing Company Ka’anapali Beach

They are located at the Outrigger Ka’anapali Beach Resort. This is MBC’s first Brewery-to-Table Dining experience in conjunction with TS Restaurants. They have a great patio area to view the sunset.

Asian Fusion. They are located at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa. This open-air restaurant provides outstanding ocean views of Ka’anapali Beach. They were voted “Best Asian Cuisine” and “Best Sushi” by Maui Magainze in 2022. Reservations are highly recommended.

Duke’s Beach House

It is located at the Honu Kai Resort. The Barefoot Bar is lively; most days, there is live music. We recommend the Seafood Risotto, the Banana Leaf Steamed Fish and Shrimp, and the Duke’s Mai Tai—the best casual restaurant for sunset views on Ka’anapali. From Duke’s, you can see the neighboring islands of Molokai and Lanai on a clear day. Duke’s specializes in locally sourced Hawaiian cuisine. Duke’s is one of the best Kaanapali Restaurants for grabbing a cocktail and watching the sunset.

Mala Ocean Tavern

It’s great for sunset views and watching turtles swim in the ocean nearby. We recommend seared Ahi, pan-fried Mahi Mahi, and Makai Tai. We have taste-tested plenty of Mai Tais on Maui, and this is one of the best with its POG foam.

The following restaurants were NOT destroyed in the Lahaina fire but are CLOSED. Once the area is connected to utilities and cleared for visitors, they will reopen. As of March 2024, the estimate is that they will reopen in the Summer of 2024.

Star Noodle – Closed but Not Destroyed

It was recently announced that Aloha Mixed Plate will return to its original spot, where Star Noodle took over in 2020. Star Noodle will relocate to Frida’s, but its opening date has not been announced.

Honu Seafood & Pizza – Closed but not Destroyed

As of 1/4/2024, Honu is still planning to open in the summer of 2024.

Sea House

Seaside on the beach in Napili Bay, you couldn’t ask for a better location to watch the sunset. It is located at the Napili Kai Beach Resort. Try their crispy crab-crusted Monchong, Huli Huli Lamb Chops, and Mai Tai, which we rated in our top three on Maui.

Reservations are highly recommended. The restaurant is open for breakfast from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., lunch from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and dinner from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The bar is open from 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Gazebo Restaurant

It is located at the Napili Shores Condos. Delicious breakfast with a view. This quaint restaurant has limited seating and is very popular. There is usually a 20-60-minute wait, but take our word—it is worth the wait! The time passes quickly with an incredible view of Napili Bay; if it is whale season, watch for whale breeches. We highly recommend the fried rice and Macadamia Nut Banana Pancakes. It is one of our favorite meals while visiting Maui. We usually go several times.

Burger Shack Kapalua

There are stunning views overlooking DJ Fleming Beach in Kapalua. The restaurant offers many burgers, fish, and boozy shakes. It’s a great place to take a break from the beach while enjoying a gorgeous view.

Merrimans Kapalua

Merriman’s has one of the best outdoor spaces and views on Maui. This farm-to-table restaurant offers fine dining with excellent views, especially at sunset and during whale season! Their menu is 90% sourced Hawaiian with fresh seafood and produce. Reservations are highly recommended and, in 2022, voted Top 100 Restaurants on OpenTable.

The Plantation House

Fine dining restaurant that uses fresh ingredients from the local Kapalua Farms and fresh seafood. Sweeping views of the ocean and located on the 18th hole of the Plantation Golf Course make the perfect setting. We recommend the shrimp scampi, macadamia nut mahi mahi, and the surf & turf.

Best Ka’anapali Restaurants Without A View


Located on the 18th Hole of the Ka’anapali Golf Course with mountain views, it is one of Maui’s most iconic restaurants, serving for over 27 years. It’s debatable whether this restaurant has a view, but since it does not have an ocean view, we have categorized it as without. We highly recommend the Misoyaki Butterfish. Due to staffing shortages, Roy’s offers a Prix Fixe dinner menu.

Best Napili, Kahana, and Kapalua Restaurants Without A View

Dollie’s Pub & Cafe

This hidden gem offers the best hand-rolled pizza in West Maui. Not only do they serve pizza, but they have a large sandwich menu, salads, and pasta. Dollie’s is the place to be if you are looking for a local bar scene. They have over 15 TVs to watch any sporting event. It is a true local hangout.

Miso Phat

It is a small, unassuming restaurant in a strip mall serving delicious fresh sushi. The very casual atmosphere that is BYOB. Carry-out is also available if you stay nearby at a condo or villa. Otherwise, there can be a wait for seating because of its small size, and they do not take reservations. We recommend the TNT Roll and the Ahi Poke Bowl.

Maui Brewing Company – Kahana

A casual brewpub that is family-friendly. We recommend their Pub Plate or Burger. While you are there, grab a flight of Maui Brewing beer.

The Fish Market Maui

With limited dining areas, we usually take out or visit the fresh seafood market to grill at the villa. Crab cakes and fish tacos are excellent. The fish in the seafood market varies daily depending on what has been locally caught. The Fish Market is a hidden gem in an unassuming strip mall but one of the best places to grab a quick bite to eat on West Maui.

Napili Market

If you are looking for some of the best poke, look no further than the Napili Market. Watch the number of locals who stop in during lunchtime; you will know it is the best on West Maui. They serve a large portion of Poke for a very reasonable price.

Joey’s Kitchen Napili

Chef Joey Macadangdang studied under Roy Yamaguchi for over 20 years. Today, he is a well-known chef in his own right in Maui, delivering Hawaiian Filipino Asian cuisine. Joey’s Kitchen was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives with Guy Fieri. Try their Garlic Kauai Shrimp!

  3. Just returned from 2weeks at The Whaler in West Maui. We agree with your restaurant suggestions. You left off the Gazebo. Great breakfast and lunch, but always a wait to get in. View is fantastic. And Dollie’s is fantastic, especially the daily specials. The bar itself reminds us of Cheer’s.
