I’ve stayed at the Andaz London Liverpool Street more than a dozen times. It’s our go-to hotel in London, but that doesn’t mean it’s the right choice for everyone.

Over the years, the neighborhood around it has become ours. When we step off the train, it feels a little like coming home.

Still, the hotel isn’t perfect. Here’s what we’ve loved, what’s frustrated us, and whether Andaz London Liverpool Street is worth booking for your trip.

Our Experience Staying at the Andaz London Liverpool Street

My husband and I have stayed here on numerous London trips, and he and his colleagues also book it for business. We’ve tried four room categories, and we know the restaurants and bar well.

After that many stays, I know exactly what to expect when we walk in.

I love stepping out the front door into the rush of Liverpool Street Station. People heading to work, meeting friends, running for trains. It’s a busy corner of London, and that’s part of the appeal for me.

The hotel pairs modern design with the bones of a historic building. We’ve stayed at other London hotels we liked. I still miss Liverpool Street every time.

Rooms at the Andaz: Which Would I Choose?

We’ve stayed in the standard King, King Deluxe, Family Room, and Large Deluxe Suite, and I’ve been happy with all of them.

One thing to know: rooms aren’t identical, even within the same category. The building is old, so some rooms have peaked ceilings and other architectural quirks. The hotel kept that character instead of renovating it away. The rooms feel contemporary but still have real personality.

Standard King Room

The standard King is comfortable, and the bed is great. If you’ll be out exploring London all day and just need a good night’s sleep, it does the job.

The catch is space, especially in the bathroom. There isn’t much room to spread out toiletries and makeup. I do my makeup at the desk instead, and it works fine.

King Deluxe Room

The King Deluxe is one of my favorites because of the extra seating area.

On one trip we traveled with another couple, and all four of us regularly gathered in our room to plan the day. Having somewhere for everyone to sit made a real difference.

The Family Room is spacious. When we booked it, it worked well for us and was a practical alternative to booking two separate rooms.

Large Deluxe Suite

This is my personal favorite, and we’ve stayed in it several times.

I love how the historic details sit alongside the modern design. The bedroom is spacious, and the separate sitting area makes it feel like a place to settle in, not just somewhere to sleep. The extra desk space is a big help when I need to work on the road.

I don’t request a specific suite or location within the hotel. Whatever we’ve been assigned has been great.

A Quirk of the Historic Building

Some rooms are in a separate section that requires a keycard at a door near the stairway. I like the added security. I don’t love digging out my keycard again when I come back from a day in London with my hands full.

It’s a small annoyance, not a reason to skip the hotel.

Are the Rooms Quiet and Comfortable?

You’d expect a hotel next to one of London’s busiest stations to be noisy. It hasn’t been for us.

We haven’t noticed much street noise in any of our stays. Some evenings we’ve heard people gathering outside the restaurant below, but it never ran late into the night.

Add the comfortable bedding, and we’ve slept well every time. After a full day of walking London, that matters.

What Are the Bathrooms Like?

Clean and modern, but not luxurious. Don’t expect a spa bathroom.

The water pressure has been good, though the shower can be a little loud. Toiletries are what you’d expect at this level: cotton swabs, shower caps, nothing that stands out.

My biggest complaint is limited storage and counter space, especially in the standard King. If you travel with a lot of toiletries and makeup, plan on using the desk.

Breakfast at the Andaz London Liverpool Street

Breakfast is good. I wouldn’t pay extra for it.

When it’s included in your rate, you order an entrée and also get the buffet. The buffet offers a wide selection of hot and cold items, plus plenty of pastries, including gluten-free options. It’s rarely crowded, so mornings feel relaxed.

The service is slow, though. More than once I’ve waited longer than I wanted just to get a coffee or tea order in, usually right when we’re eager to get out the door.

And you don’t need it. Cafés around Liverpool Street Station have coffee and pastries covered, and The Breakfast Club is close by if you want a full breakfast.

My recommendation: Enjoy it if it’s included. Don’t add it if it isn’t.

Restaurants and Bars Inside the Andaz

You don’t have to leave the Andaz London Liverpool Street for a good meal or a drink. There are five restaurants and bars right in the building.

Lady Abercorn’s Pub & Kitchen

A drink at Lady Abercorn’s before dinner has become our London tradition. It’s a classic British pub with traditional pub food and a rustic feel, and it’s our favorite spot for evening drinks.

It’s lively and always busy, but we’ve almost always found a seat. I like starting the evening there without leaving the hotel.

Eastway Brasserie

Eastway has a relaxed atmosphere and an à la carte menu of classic European dishes with a twist.

Rake’s Café Bar

When we want something different, we head to Rake’s. It’s a café by day and a bar by night, with indoor and outdoor seating. Stop in for coffee in the morning or a cocktail at happy hour.

1901 Wine Lounge

If you love wine, the 1901 Wine Lounge pairs a good selection with small plates. It’s an easy place to unwind with friends.

Miyako

Miyako serves authentic Japanese food, and I always end up trying something new.

The menus are seasonal, so expect some changes between visits.

Service at the Andaz

The staff is a big reason we keep returning.

We usually arrive in London early in the morning, well before check-in. The staff store our luggage and work to get us into a room as soon as they can.

I set up in the lobby with my laptop while we wait. Instead of making me check back at the desk, someone comes over to tell me the room is ready. After a long journey, that small gesture means a lot.

When I’ve asked for Diet Coke instead of regular Coke in the in-room fridge, they’ve swapped it without any fuss. Little things, but they add up.

What Happened When the Hotel Misplaced Our Luggage

We did have one bad experience. We’d left three bags with the hotel, and somehow they got separated.

Staff found one right away. The other two took much longer, and yes, I was worried.

What I liked was how they handled it. They kept searching and kept us updated, so we never wondered whether anyone was actually looking. All three bags eventually showed up at our room, along with a special tray sent up as an apology.

Mistakes happen at every hotel. What I remember is how the staff responded.

It also convinced me to put an AirTag in every bag we travel with.

We book cash rates that earn World of Hyatt points. All those London trips added up, and we now have Explorist status.

At the Andaz, that status has paid off. We’ve been upgraded to suites, and the hotel has given us early check-in when a room is available and late checkout on the way out. After an early morning arrival or before an evening flight home, those extra hours make a real difference.

Suite upgrades aren’t guaranteed at Explorist, so I treat them as a bonus, not something to count on.

Why I Love the Location of the Andaz London Liverpool Street

The location is the number one reason to book the Andaz London Liverpool Street. It isn’t just a transit hub to me. It’s a neighborhood we know.

Walking to London’s Sights

Some of London’s best sights are within walking distance. Leadenhall Market, St. Paul’s Cathedral, and the Tower of London are all an easy walk away.

I love heading out on foot and seeing where the day takes us. With this much nearby, we never feel rushed. And when we want to go farther, the station is right there.

Getting There From Heathrow

The Elizabeth Line runs from Heathrow to Liverpool Street Station, and the hotel is steps away. I see no reason to pay for an expensive taxi.

If you have mobility limitations or a lot of luggage, a car transfer may be better. For how we travel, the train wins.

Getting Around London

Underground, Elizabeth Line, and rail connections are all right outside. We plan our days without worrying about getting from one neighborhood to the next, and at night we return to a station we know.

For first-time visitors, having such a well-connected station next door is a big advantage.

Day Trips From London

We’ve used the Andaz as our base for day trips to Cambridge, Oxford, Windsor, and Bath.

Cambridge is the easiest. Direct trains leave from Liverpool Street Station, right next to the hotel. Oxford, Windsor, and Bath depart from other London stations, but Liverpool Street’s connections make it easy to get there.

I love spending the day somewhere new and coming back to a neighborhood that feels familiar.

Our Favorite Restaurants and Pubs Near the Andaz

Over the years, we’ve built up a list of favorites within walking distance, and we look forward to them every trip.

SUSHISAMBA

SUSHISAMBA is our pick for a special dinner. The view is excellent, and it makes the whole night feel like an occasion. Order the green bean tempura and the crispy lobster taquitos.

Padella

For something more relaxed, Padella is my favorite of the three. Start with the burrata with Le Ferre olive oil.

Our three favorite pastas are the pici cacio e pepe, the pappardelle with 8-hour Hereford beef shin ragu, and the Delica pumpkin ravioli with Westcombe ricotta and sage butter. Save room, because the tiramisu is a must.

Gloria

I love Gloria’s intimate setting. We order the tagliatelle carbonara and the Crudo & Rucola pizza.

The Gun and The Ten Bells

For a classic London pub, we pick The Gun and The Ten Bells. Both have the London scene I love, with people spilling outside and chatting over a drink.

It feels distinctly London to me. It’s a big reason I’d rather stay here than in an area full of tourist hotels.

Wandering Old Spitalfields Market is one of my favorite afternoons at the Andaz.

I like the shops around the market, but the stalls inside are the real draw. Even after all these trips, I still find something new.

The food stalls make lunch easy. Get The Melt at Melt, the Margherita pizza at Sud Italia, and the pork bun at Yum Bun.

No big sightseeing plan, no cross-city trip. Just a good afternoon right around the corner.

Is the Andaz London Liverpool Street Worth It?

Yes, and it’s because of the location. The bathrooms aren’t the most luxurious in London, and the amenities won’t wow you. What the Andaz does is make the whole trip easier.

Being next to Liverpool Street Station makes airport transfers and day trips easier. And the restaurants, pubs, and market are all within walking distance.

That said, I wouldn’t book it at any price. If rates climb higher than I want to pay, I’d book the Marriott Montcalm East instead.

How Does It Compare With the Montcalm East?

We’ve stayed at the Marriott Montcalm East and liked both the hotel and its location. During our latest stay, there was construction around Old Street Station, so check current conditions before you book.

My Final Verdict: Would I Stay at the Andaz Again?

Absolutely. After more than a dozen stays, it’s still our London hotel.

Breakfast service can be slow, and some bathrooms lack storage. We even had two bags go missing for a while. The good has far outweighed it all.

I’d consider other hotels depending on our plans. But when we arrive at Liverpool Street, we’re not starting over in an unfamiliar city. We’re back in our own little corner of London.
